What is the meaning behind Yellow Brick Road's name?
At Yellow Brick Road Coaching and Mentoring, we understand that life’s journey can sometimes feel overwhelming—especially for young people.
There are times when we all feel lost, unsure which direction to take, or unaware of the strengths we hold within.
Our name is inspired by The Wizard of Oz, where each character is searching for something they believe they lack—courage, love, wisdom.
In much the same way, through years of working with young people, we’ve found that many feel they’re missing something important. Like the Cowardly Lion or the Tin Man, they may not yet realise that what they’re searching for has always been inside them.

We truly believe—and have witnessed time and time again—that all young people possess the answers and inner strengths they need. Our role is to help them discover this for themselves.
Through years of experience, we’ve become experts in gently teasing out these qualities by creating a safe, supportive space where they feel seen, heard, and understood.

With over 20 years’ experience, we use a creative, person-centred approach to support emotional wellbeing, resilience, self-esteem, and confidence.
While we work directly with the young person, we also support those around them—parents, teachers, youth workers—to create a consistent and nurturing environment.

We know that true resilience and long-term behaviour change don’t happen overnight. They occur when a young person reaches that powerful moment of realisation—when, through self-discovery, they begin to answer their own questions and understand their own potential. This is the kind of deep, lasting change we aim for.

Our sessions might include art-based activities, outdoor cooking, hill walking, hammock time, a relaxed trip to a café, or a casual game of pool.
These experiences may appear light-hearted on the surface, but they are always intentional—designed to build trust, encourage reflection, and support meaningful growth.

Think back to your own youth—were you more open to learning and exploring when you felt relaxed, happy, and safe? That’s the environment we create.
We walk alongside young people as they follow their own Yellow Brick Road—supporting them as they discover that everything they need has always been within them.

Do you work with neurodiverse children?
Yes, we do work with children with neurodiversity.
Coaching has been shown to be highly beneficial in helping children navigate challenges, develop important skills such as goal setting, building resilience, fostering relationships, and boosting overall confidence and self-esteem.

However, it's important to note that as a coaching organisation, our focus is on the coaching aspects of personal development, including creating effective coping strategies, action planning, and supporting forward movement.
While we are dedicated to helping children thrive, we are not specialised in providing direct therapeutic or diagnostic support for neurodiversity itself.
For specialised care, we encourage seeking professionals who specialise in neurodiverse conditions.

How is this different from counselling?
We focus on the power of personal growth!
Counselling is an amazing tool and works wonders for many people, but by its nature it focuses on emotional healing from the past by focusing on that experience and working through it.
People can often feel they are reliving the trauma of the experience, coaching and mentoring is about looking forward and empowering you to take action.
We believe in helping you process your thoughts and create actionable plans for a brighter future.
Plus, our outdoor sessions break down barriers and create a refreshing, natural environment that fosters empowerment—because growth should feel invigorating, not clinical!
Join us on this exciting journey to unlock your full potential!
